Found in Merais Province, Black Rock is the stronghold of the Questers. A fortress city surrounded by a giant basalt wall, Black Rock is a place shrouded in mystery, awe and fear.
People outside of the Order sometimes travel to the city for refuge against monster attacks, but only those who’re truly committed to the brotherhood and their way of life remain.
What is the architecture of Black Rock like?
The outer rim of Black Rock is ringed by a wall made out of basalt that’s regularly patrolled by Questers. In certain places, the heads of monsters are stuck atop spikes as warnings and reminders that the brotherhood will forever be dedicated to hunting the things that go bump in the night.
The city itself comprises a series of canals and craft districts that contribute to the day to day running of Fort Myers, which is where the Questers conduct their business. The regular citizens of Black Rock aren’t Questers themselves, but are allowed to stay because they contribute to the community in some way.
For example, Black Rock has some of The Frontier’s finest blacksmiths who help to repair and tend Quester equipment in exchange for payment and shelter. There are also seamstresses and cooks who keep the city fed and Fort Myers supplied with a generous amount of stock and clothing.
What is Fort Myers?
Fort Myers overlooks the city and is perched atop a dormant volcano. As the base of the Questers, it’s where they keep prisoners, hold meetings, stock weapons, carry out interrogations and report back to The High Quester.
The fortress is split into a series of self-contained areas walled by four gates, each with its own line of defences. At the end of the four gates is the main courtyard and keep, which houses the seat and living quarters of The High Quester.
There are many legends about Fort Myers, with some stories saying that the God of The Underealm Agneius helped the first questers build it back in the Cultiva era.
Other stories tell of the torture and pain that is inflicted upon the unlucky bastards who’re held captive in the labyrinthine dungeons that are said to go all the way down to The Underealm itself.
