Like religion, politics is a complex subject on The Frontier and it shapes the lives of the rich, poor, young and old. Let’s take a look at an overview of the politics of The Frontier and how the ruling government body decides the fate of people from all walks of life.
What kind of political system is in place?
The Frontier is presided over by a governmental regime called The Administration, which rules from Crest City in the central Province of Aortia.
The Administration is a mixture of ten powerful politicians from across the land. There are nine Ministers that represent each of the nine Provinces: Aortia, Robuck, Eyra, Merais, Deepstead, Karstium, Frithland, Lera and Ironsford.
Above the Ministers is the Prime Marshal, the most powerful government position in The Frontier.
How do The Administration govern?
The Administration operates under a democratic system of voting and legislation, with the nine Ministers each holding equal rank (in theory). They are elected through the contribution of great deeds towards their own Provinces, acts that have benefited The Frontier as a whole etc.
Beneath them are various chamberlains, overseers and minor politicos who carry out the day-to-day tasks set out by the laws of the land and are always looking to climb the ladder to advance their careers.
These lesser politicians have influence across smaller Territories and coordinate with local marshals and mayors of towns to keep things running.
This political model is still a fairly recent invention as it was brought in by the Prime Marshal to replace the old system of patricians and aristocrats holding sway over the populace and The Frontier.
Who is the Prime Marshal?
The Prime Marshal is the highest political office that can be held and the person who holds the rank has the final say in all government policies laid out by The Administration.
The first and current Prime Marshal is Aloysius Greenlaw, who’s been in office for over thirty years and has remained popular for his hard stance against the supernatural and magic.
He rose to power during the third Kamuni uprising, putting down the rebellion and using it to springboard his political career and stage a coup to seize control over the old government and reshape it to his will.
Greenlaw used his private army to do away with the old system of aristocratic rule and introduced The Administration as a way to usher in what he saw as a new future.
Many people still remember those uncertain days of chaos and with his history, pragmatism, shrewdness and ruthlessness, Greenlaw is still a name to be respected.
Yet rumours have spread that his age and health are starting to impact him and he’s withdrawn from the public eye in recent years.
