Physician Philosophers, Medical Miracle Workers Or Overpaid Frauds?
The Order of White Light: You Decide.
When it comes to health and well-being on The Frontier, both are closely tied to religion and the divine influence of the god of medicine Tulapian. This connection is so strong that an organisation called The Order of White Light is the dominant medical body of The Frontier.
What is The Order Of White Light?
The Order of White Light is comprised of doctors, nurses and healers who’ve dedicated themselves fully to Tulapian and operate out of the many medical temples across The Frontier.
To become a part of the Order and be officially recognised as a medic, students must attend The Medico College in Crest City, where they’ll learn and practice the latest healthcare techniques for a minimum period of three years.
Admission to The Medico College is expensive and it’s common for the sons and daughters of wealthy families to be given entry. For poorer families, the College has granted access to people who’ve shown an aptitude for healing and for those whose training can be paid for by a patron.
Once a student has graduated, they are eligible to set up their own medical temple in a new location and serve as the healer within their community.
Tenured members of The Order of White Light have sometimes been referred to as physician philosophers, as everyone is expected to be versed in art, politics and the latest happenings in society.
What is the reputation of The Order Of White Light?
The reputation of doctors and nurses within The Order of White Light is mixed, depending on who you speak to. Within wealthier Provinces like Aortia and Frithland, the Order is respected and their medical knowledge is treated as a divine gift from Tulapian himself.
In wilder Provinces like Robuck and Eyra, some folks feel the Order is elitist and only caters to the wealthy.
They believe healing shouldn’t have to be paid for and that the grace Tulapian is far more likely to be found in the country healers and physicians who help people out of the goodness of their own heart.
